Zwarte Poezie

Even though melancholy and dark romanticism are timeless and are enjoyed or suffered in all countries among all persuasions, Dutch new wave somehow still remains a rarity. Zwarte Poëzie (translated as Black Poetry), the band of singer/songwriter Edwin van der Velde, do have the guts to sing about their grief in their own mother tongue. Musically, Van der Velde gets his inspiration from bands like Placebo, The Cure and Joy Division, the lyrics are based on the daily sorrow and self-hatred of boys and girls in Utrecht – in other words, boys and girls like you and I. Unique and brave, a Dutch band that we should be proud of.
